WE ASKED: What does Imago Therapy and AIRTA membership mean to you?

Annie Gurton, AIRTA member and Certified Imago Therapist

‘Imago Relationship Therapy has given me a wide range of skills and techniques which have proven invaluable in working with couples.  I am able to explain to couples the reasons why they behave as they do, and help them to explore the genesis of their adult attachments and behaviours. And I am able to teach them how to talk so the other will listen and listen so the other will talk.  They leave my sessions full of optimism and hope for their relationship, and a set of skills and knowledge that helps them to build a happy, healthy life together.

AIRTA has been an important part of my journey.  It provides the community that we therapists need because it can be isolating work, and the support and knowledge of senior more experienced therapists for me to draw on.’

Glenys Anderson O.A.M. AIRTA Member, Certified Imago Therapist and Imago Advanced Clinician

'Before discovering Imago Relationship Therapy, I was counselling couples using older, traditional methods. After training in Imago Relationship Therapy, I discovered a wonderful new way to connect couples and teach them skills they could continue to use themselves at home.  It was an exciting discovery.

Couples I work with find they can connect and communicate after a few sessions.  Instead of bickering and arguing, they learn to listen and validate each other.

Imago transformed my own relationship and it continues to transform the lives of the many couples I work with.

Membership of AIRTA (The Association for Imago Relationship Therapists of Australia) provides an important link for me with other Imago Therapists in Australia. I enjoy meeting up at trainings, summits and conferences. As Chairperson of AIRTA since 2013, I have seen AIRTA grow to provide new incentives and opportunities for therapists. I would encourage all therapists to be part of AIRTA as this can only increase Imago Relationship Therapy's profile.'

Francess Day AIRTA Member and Certified Imago Therapist

'Being a member gives credibility to my qualification as a relationship therapist, because Imago is the most effective, wholistic counselling which can be provided to 2 people.'
